Parrot

Parrot is a thread painted rendition of one of Guido Daniele’s “Handimals”. Guido skillfully paints highly detailed and realistic animals onto hands. His stunning hand painting illusion captures the imagination as he portrays a parrot on a hand. I was able to capture the essence of his art in 89 different colors of thread. I am honored that Guido has allowed me to let his animal fantasy come alive in thread.

Technique:

I used my Thread Stories technique of blending threads over a photograph printed on fabric. This technique creates a realistic thread painted version of the original photograph in thread. I incorporated 3” of trapunto into this quilt, causing the parrot to have a three dimensional, full-bodied appearance.

Materials:

89 colors of polyester and silk threads, photograph printed on fabric, canvas, batting and cotton backing cloth.
